DLA Query

Hi guys..
Wonder if any one of you are able to reply or suggest this query.
I first applied for DLA back in around 2000/2001.. but over the 5 years, it's been refused 3 or 4 times, then tried again in 2005 (no circumstance have changed - still the same) I finally got my DLA application accepted.
But have wondered about why from 2000/1 to 2004 I was refused and should I be paid for those years if my circumstance never changed as in backpayment? (my application form was almost identical from memory). I'm guessing it's well too late - just a thought as someone was telling me that I should check it out now.
Hopefully my question made sense (it's 3am! Hey, blame the MSE for attracting me to read so many threads/posts!
)
Thanks,
Caist

If your application for DLA DLA is succsesful, then it will be backdated to the beginning of your current application.....If refused you have a set time to appeal .
From what you have written it sounds as if you didn't appeal the original decision? - or all appeals were refused? And then you applied again in 2005 and got accepted. The application would be seen as 'starting' from your 2005 application and payment starts from then......There are others on this site who know much more than I do - but this is how I read the facts you posted!
I found the DLA system really complicated - which is why I went to DIAL, who know all the ins and outs and dealt with the whole confusing system for me!0 -
if you had appealed and it took that amount of time it would be backdated, under the circumstances it will only be backdated to the start date of your current claim.0

Hi,
I appealed against the decision on 2nd refusal.. It was also turned me down on that. And when I tried to claim for about 5th time it then accepted in 2005 it was only backdated to the 1st claim of current (2005) DLA.. Never thought to ask about the very first time I claimed back in 2000/1
From my rough memory
2000/1 I claimed for DLA as I didnt know that I was entitled to it - Refused
2002 claimed again - Refused, so appealed - it was struck out
2003 or 2004 claimed again - Refused
2005 claimed - Accepted and only backdated to the1st day of this claim.
So wondered if I should've asked if they could backdate me since the very 1st claim til 2005? No one told me at the time that I could've asked about it seeing that my circumstance never changed one bit throughout (and still is).
Thanks,

Honestly you haven't got a hope in hell, you applied, they turned you down, you appealed they turned you down.
I already guessed that I may not have a "hope in hell" - hence asked to see if it is or not, but thanksworth asking, the worse they can say is no.
That's true.. Think I'll just do a letter and send it to DLA (would that be to appeal/decision maker or directly to DLA .. What do you think?).
Thanks,
Caist0 -
I think you shouldn't ask about previous years, they may look again at your claim for this year and decide you don't qualify this year either, but that's just personal opinion.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
