Door lock problems.

Came back to my Vauxhall Combo after work last night. Press the key fob to open the doors, the lights flash, but I can't get in. After much humming and hawing (and swearing) finally manage to get in, scrape the inside of the windscreen, and drive home.

Checked a bit more when I get home, and the following is the state of play.
Driver side door will only lock/unlock using the key.
Passenger side door will only lock/unlock using the remote control.
Passenger side door will not open at all, even though the snib is up and the mech. has made what sounds like it's usual movements. (Possible deadlock problem)

2 Questions. Has anyone else had anything similar happen to them, and how the Hell do you fix it?

Thanks.

  • Sometimes on my Pug 206 GLX I'll press the button to unlock the car on the remote and all the doors unlock apart from the drivers door. I then usually have to press the lock button then the unlock button again and that usually unlocks it. Sometimes I have to repeat the procedure.

I think this happens after locking the doors while inside the car using the button on the dashboard and then exiting the car by just opening the drivers door as usual causing the car to automatically unlock itself instead of me pressing the un/locking button again on the dashboard. Something I need to look into.

Have you been able to resolve this issue yet? Also, was the passenger side door not opening from inside, outside or both? ... An initial remote diagnoses suggests it's the 'locking rod' that has slipped out. You can slip the rod back in very easily with some lube (there are some odd folk on here that will get excited by that sentence), but you have to strip everything from the door.

  • Update:

The passenger door now opens, but only locks/unlocks using the fob. At the time, it wouldn't open from inside or out.

The drivers door now only seems to work using the key...

Just wondering if it is temperature related, since it was down to around -14 last night. Fingers crossed for tonight.

  • I had a similar problem on a Vauxhall Astra, the weather made it worse, the rods inside the door of it ran in little tubes, when it was really cold they tended to stick in the tubes. In the end I had to take the door cards off and remove the rods and clean and re-grease them.

I think it may be an electrical problem on the central locking possibly a broken wire.

Could it be that the the door is actually frozen into its aperture?

Maybe the door locking mechanism is working correctly, but the door seal is frozen because it is/was so cold.

Did try de icer on it, with no effect. I DO think it's temperature related though. Started to work ok yesterday, after it warmed up a bit. Crazyhaggid's idea sounds like a possible.

    Thanks for the suggestions folks.

    Another update....

With the drop in temperature, the passenger door did it again. Oh well, at least I've got a theory to work to. Now I just need to wait until it warms up again to get the door apart :)
