Diary of an Ex-Spendaholic - Sorting it out in 2010

Every time I come on here it seems like you've a million DFW things since I last checked! :rotfl:
I am impressed; well done!;)This space for rent
Ignorance is not an excuse. How about utter stupidity?0 -
Thanks  I do tend to be a bit manic and obsessional about things. Having this diary has made me determined to sort things out whereas before I just floated along.
I'm about to enter a bit of a lull period I think now though. Until such times I get a response on the CCA I can't offer Full and Finals. It would be really great to get moving on those.
In the meantime I'm annoying my work colleagues by telling them they are not skint they are just bad money managers. :rotfl:I'm telling them to write budgets, pay cash for stuff, save money in a tin etc and they just laugh. It seems the more credit cards you have the more important you are. I used to think just like them. However at the end of February I hope to have a few quid still knocking around unlike them.0 -
Things are looking a bit more hopeful on the ebay front. :j The hoover and DVD boxset which didn't sell on buy it nows have been put on auction. I now have 1 bid and 4 watchers on the DVD boxset and the hoover has 5 watchers. Might be just other sellers but who knows?
Found another sealed DVD which was a competition win. I've put it on Buy It Now. Really should have used Amazon but was of the opinion that if there is already stuff on ebay I may as well add to it.
Over the coming days I'm going to have a rummage about for other stuff to sell. I spy a wii game from Christmas 2009 still shrinkwrapped. Kids can be so ungrateful. I'm pretty sure my 6 year old daughter has a few unused DS games around too. Previously I would have let these kick around forever on the basis Santa brought them but if they haven't looked at them in over a year, I doubt they will now.
Youngest child has just moved out of the cot and refuses to use a highchair. I've been freecycling baby equipment up to now just to get shot of it but wondering should I try and sell these?
Just emptied the washing machine and gathered up £1.72 which OH obviously left in his trousers again. :rotfl:Some weeks it would be cheaper for him to employ a cleaner. So off the money goes to the sealed pot.0 -
Just been to the shopping centre on my lunch break. I came back with nothing. :j This is definitely the new me. I would have loved to have bought a load of kids summer clothes in Next but I managed to stop myself. They aren't going to wear them in February and besides 2 of the kids have birthdays in the next couple of months and the MIL insists on them having clothes for their birthdays. So it will wait a while.
Also a bit of good news, I have won a years supply of Haagan Dazs ice cream. For years supply read 26 vouchers for 1 tub. Thats more like a month's supply in our house. :rotfl:So we will have nice ice-cream for a while. I wonder if any of the horrible supermarkets have it on BOGOF 3 for 2 or anything similar? Would be good to spread it out a bit.
The Quidco money has come in £10.83. Have decided rather than putting the £10 in the sealed pot which I was originally going to do that I would put it by for son's school trip. So that is £20 saved and £250 to go. The 83p has gone in the shrapnel jar.
Now if only GMTV or ITV would phone to say I've won a load of money.0 -
Today has been a No Spend Day. :j  I'm really pleased about that.0

Had my CCCS review. My payments are increasing by £15 per month which brings my DFD from January 2030 to July 2027. :j OK it is still a long time away but it knocks off 2.5 years and that is great in my opinion. :j I will have it cleared long before then. :A Once I get the OH's cards sorted I will be working on getting cash together for Full and Finals for the 4 smaller creditors on the DMP.0

Another No Spend Day today. Delighted about this. I was at work so my time to buy was limited to my lunch hour. Instead of going out I surfed the net and didn't buy anything on there either.
Off work tomorrow though and the kids usually have a knack of extorting cash on Friday afternoons so I don't forsee a NSD tomorrow. Still having not spent anything yesterday or today I can't complain. :j
No word either of OH's cards. Both have had the CCA dispute letter and also letter 2 of the charges reclaiming. Haven't paid either of them in the past 2 months. Not sure what to do next on these.
Oh and my hoover has a bid and 7 watchers and the DVD has 2 bids and 4 watchers. They end tomorrow night and I can't stop looking at the seller page to see how they are progressing.
The sealed pot has just had £1 today.0 -
:j :j Letter from Mint today. They are repaying the charges in full + 8% interest. This totals £509 which brings the balance down to just a few pound over £4K. :j :j
Not a No Spend Day today as I had to buy nappies and toothpaste but it will be as cheap a day as I can make it. :beer:0 -
Hi, Not been on here for long, but just wanted to say, brilliant work.I'm fighting my demons. Lunchbreak is the worst, especially when you have had a bad day, and you want a pick me up. Treats tend to be free 50p or £1, but I'm still fighting my toiletry demons.I stock up on years worth supply of something in the sale, and then ignore the fact that I already have a years worth at home. If it's a bargain, I have to have it.Really trying to resist the Bodyshop sale at the moment, and how could they bring back Dewberry? I was gutted when they stopped making that. I really need to resist it.Only way I am going to do this is by removing all methods of spending from my purse. Severe, but needed.:(
M&S £2878.22/ Natwest £3526/ Loan £405/ [STRIKE]Sofa £0[/STRIKE]/ [STRIKE]Ring £0[/STRIKE]/
Savings £12.04 NSD 3/10 :cool:Total £6915.88

My ebay auctions have ended. :j :j Providing they pay I'll have made £180 profit. :j Putting this to the school trip fund bringing the total to £200. Just £70 to go.
On the downside I went to M&S today and wasted £28.50 on food. :mad:0
