DAB Radio Return?

Options
Hi guys. Just need assistance on a quick issue.
For xmas I got a DAB Radio/iPod dock. Although it works fine with the iPod, the DAB is awful. I've yet to pick up any channels. Also the FM radio isnt that good either, with even my mobile phone picking up stations which this £100+ unit should.

So my question, will this be ok for a refund? I know that companies can give refunds at their discretion but I just want to know if I have any legal rights on getting a refund on this item. As in, not working as advertised. This DAB radio is no good to me if It can't pick up any radio stations. I Just want to know where I stand.

Many thanks in advance! :T

I take it you didn't actually purchase the item, in which case you have no consumer rights regarding returning the radio. However, even if you were the consumer you would only have a legal right for a refund if the radio was faulty and you've notified the retailer within a reasonable time not because you're unable to receive a DAB signal in your area.
  • Fair enough. I do remember though somewhere that I was told for example, If I bought a wireless router and discovered the performance was poor, I could return it under the grounds its not working as advertised or something, I forget the lingo used. This radio is far worse than any radio in our house. Even a cheap £5 radio can pick up Radio 2 and Radio 1 without any hiss in stereo, yet this £100 monster cannot.

Many people in the same boat, unfortunately.

My own DAB radio sits on the windowsill, it's the only place in the house it can receive a signal and even then it keeps cutting out.

Have you thought about an internet radio instead ?

Revo manufacture an internet & FM radio with iPod dock, the iBlik, https://www.play.com are selling it for just under £70.

Doubt the purchaser will get a refund. But every chance the retailer might offer a credit note/gift token instead, most are flexible when it comes to unwanted Christmas gifts but you might only have 28 days/month to change gifts depending on company policy.

I've had several DAB radios, from portable radios, an IPOD docking clock radio thing, to my main Hi-Fi in my living room.

All of them are awful. DAB is the most over-rated hyped up steaming pile of horse manure to be introduced over the last decade.

At best, I get a strong signal and listen happily for about 2-3hrs, then the signal wanders and becomes muffled and distorted.

At worst, I spend ages tuning the thing only to get silence when I try to select the station.

Out of all the DAB Radios I own, or have used, I have never seen one with a sensible and user friendly menu system.

I hate DAB with a passion and welcome it's demise.
  • Thanks for the heads up people.
I agree about DAB. You see it advertised all over TV and even radio and yet when it comes down to it, the signal is awful. In a 6 mile square area where I live, I can only pick up DAB at work. My home or my girlfriends home is like a signal black hole.

In regards to this radio, I shall put up with it. DAB doesnt bother me so much. For what it is, its a nice unit.

I just wanted to know any other routes I could take. Thanks again! :D

    Hi

I had a DAB radio in my kitchen - great reception - bought 1 for my office - nothing - tried old one - it worked fine .... took new one back & got refund - told them that it didn't pickup any channels. I did do some research on the web - might be the power of the transmitter in the DAB ...
