Has anyone had issues with a 3com wireless router? I have just purchased one, all configured on the router screen (192.168.1.1), all the lights on, everything plugged in, but just can't get online or download emails in Outlook Express. Running on XP. I have wasted umpteen hours today, rang 3com, who told me that the serial number on this router had been registered 18 months ago. It is definitely brand new though. Anyone with any idea?
Hoping not to spend all evening fixing it........

Have you made sure you have set all the usernames and passwords correct in the router? i know when i was setting one up with BT the username is something completely different to normal. something like firstnamelastname@btbroadband or soemthing. might be worth calling your ISP and checking you have all the correct details.0

Thanks - yes I have tried that - they gave me all the necessary details.0

So you have configured your router but cannot get onto the net.
Try going to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network Connections and right click Properties on your Local Area Connection (Ethernet). There should be a check box "Show icon in notification area when connected" Then highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and again click on Properties. If not already checked, check the boxes Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click OK to save.

Yes I have tried that also. That was one of the troubleshooting pieces of advice that came with it!0

Are you connecting to the router wirelessly or wired with Ethernet cable?
Post the results of an ipconfig/all in this thread. Click Start - Run - type in cmd and click OK. In the new window that's just opened type:
ipconfig/all > temp.txt
notepad temp.txt
Copy and paste from Notepad.0 -
I am not at that computer at the mo, but as soon as I am, I will post the results. Thanks0

i've got a 3com office connect router. This is actually my 3rd one as 2 of them broke down.
1st would only let 1 wireless pc on at a time.
2nd would drop adsl line after 30secs to 5 mins.
Not a fan of it. It seems a bit iffy when you turn on all the encryption and MAC Address filtering.
Currently running it in open mode, which isn't very secure at all.
Good news is that they have a lifetime warranty, but I had to send them off to get em replaced.
But basically it's a piece of cake to get online, just really need to choose PPPoA, type in name and password and you're off. (Most ISP's use PPPoA some use PPPoE)0
