Hi, I will soon have a relative spending the next few months in Belgium, just wanted to hear from anyone that is able to help on the cheapest way to phone back to a UK landline from a mobile as the relative will not have access to a landline in Belgium. Thanks

Lycamobile charge 11 cents/min to UK landlines. You can get €7.50 free credit when you register on-line. You can buy the SIM cards in many small shops, think they still cost €10. You don't seem to be able to buy the SIM cards on-line but you can top-up online.

From what I can tell on this page:
http://www.lesminutes.be/Cob/deminuten_befr/EMinutes/show_alldest.asp?partner=deminuten_befr seems to offer an instant 'virtual phonecard' that allows cheap calls - may 3 or 4c per min - to UK landlines.
Lesminutes is very well established in France, from there they offer a simple access to UK like our 0844 numbers. Not so simple in Belgium though.
(this will only work if the rel has a decent mobile tariff for use in BE though)0 -

Thanks for your reply, that seems a really good way of keeping in touch at a reasonable cost.....certainly worthwhile buying a Lycamobile sim!:T0 -

I am fairly certain that the relative has only a UK sim at present, but maybe of use in the future.0 -
I remember when I was based at RAF Bruggen,Germany, in the late 80's,the payphones took 1Dm (about 30p) pieces which, were Ironically, the same size & weight as the old brit 5p!....
Worked a treat in the payphones!0
