What are vertex shaders?

My brother is trying to run a computer game and it comes up with:

Your video card does not support vertex shaders

The computer is 2 years old and his video card is a Radion 7500 AGP series.

If this means he needs a new video card to be able to play this game, what is the best card for the cheapest money?

Thank you for your help.

Carrie.

Yes vertex shaders are soemthing your graphics card does. try installing all the latest graphics drivers and directX to ensure its not compatible.

if not then look for a graphics card that supports AGP slot and Direct X 9.0.

this should be ok for you. might be worth checking the requirments on the game it will normally say "requires a Nvidia 5200 or later or ati xxxxxx or later"
will make it quick and easy to see what the minimin you need is

just being AGP and supporting direct x 9.0 will not guarantee it has vertex shaders. Best bet is ordering a graphics card off the net where it states "VERTEX SHADERS X(however many it has)" as on the packaging with some graphics cards it doesnt tell you it has vertex shaders.

The 7500 does not have programable vertex or pixel shaders. It might be worth trying to make the game run under DirectX 7 mode. You don't have to uninstall anything related to DirectX 9. You just have to pass the relevent command to the game when it starts up. These cards first came out around 2000. If you mention the game then perhaps more people can help.
