Broken laptop screen

Hi. I (stupidly) picked my laptop up by the screen and now it has broken. The outside is undamaged however on the inside it has what appears to be two cracks -black lines- down the screen.
Also 3/4 of the screen has lots of coloured lines running down it, like a barcode, while the other 1/4 is normal.
Can anyone tell me if this is repairable. It is a packard bell, easynote E6100.
Thanks for any help.

not cheaply, try ebay for a new screen, or buy a new dell for £300-350.

Does you house insurance cover accidental damage?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Your laptop screen has cracked and the liquid crystal inside is leaking out (inside the glass still)

it is re-pairables but normally takes a whole new screen. call pc world see if they cover it (not very likely but a complaint to head office can help)

if not its gonna cost you. throught the offical manufacture you can be looking at between £200 and £500 depending on how mean they are.

might have a look at getting your own monitor to replace it with yourself.

Did you get this as part of the £289 deal ...

Assuming you can't buy a 2nd hand screed

If so do you think this piece of kit is really good enough to justify the repair costs
... selling the bits might go a long way towards paying for a new laptop ... have you seen how much that DVDrw drive is ....

    £289? I wish. I paid over £500 for this in March 2005.
Unfortunately it is not covered by any insurance.
I have connected an old moniter up to the laptop to be able to use it as buying a new one is not possible at the moment.

    Oh...

I only asked, as a number of us got them around then as part of PC World click and collect promotion ... 1/2 ( inflated) price

Good price at £289..... glad i did not pay much more though .. mine overheats and got a poor battery life

    ---

hint on looking on ebay for 2nd hand screen ... type in things like "faulty laptop" or NEC screen
