ipod shuffle driving me mad!!!

I bought an ipod shuffle for my daughter for christmas and am having real problems downloading itunes from the apple site. I am not even sure if it has downloaded as it says congratulations but there is no further information on the screen. I did plug in the ipod and heard it downloading the voice over on windows media player but i still am no further along when it actually comes to loading any songs on it. Wish she'd asked for the moon on a stick now!!!! If anyone has any idea on what i could try next as it really is annoying me now. Thanks in advance.

thankyou also, for this advice, as I am thinking of buying ipod shuffle.. Do I understand that I have to set up an account with itunes to be able to use this ?

How much does it cost ?

AND. referring to the question about installing anything.. when I instal ' players ' and the installation is complete, do I then press 'RUN' ?

Free to set up and free to install itunes, you only have to pay for any content in itunes that you want (except free stuff).

When you have downloaded the program you click run or if using firefox just double click the file from the download manager that pops up automatically.
