Help with skype please

I have at long last sorted out a skype account to speak to my sister in Oz, however when i sign in to skype she is not showing that she is online, but I know that she is because my daughter logs into skype on her own computer and my sister is showing as online. My other contacts are working normally and show correctly their status. I am using XP on a desktop computer my daughter is on laptop with vista(not sure that makes any difference). Any ideas what to try either end , thanks.

Are you getting a green skype icon at the top of the skype window? Cause I sometimes login and it doesnt connect so shows everyone to be offline, I login and login and it works fine.

I am logged in, and my daughter at the same time on different computer, my sister showing as offline on mine and online on hers, try to ring and connect anyway but doesn't work, very frustarting as would love to chat at my own computer rather than someone elses, there must be a simple reason, just haven't found it yet!

When you login where is says Json Wilson it will have your name. The green skype icon on the left of the name is yours green or grey?.

what firewall are you using?

Just windows one, so my son informs me. is that a prob? my sister is online now so my daughter informs me , she is upstairs on her computer but showing offline on mine.

if other people are showing online except just the one contact then i wouldnt think its a firewall problem tbh.
Maybe if you both delete each other off your contact list, then try and add each other again to see if this changes anything.
Can your sister in Oz see you online?

when you know your daughter is online but its not showing, can you send a message or even make a call to her?

I sometimes waited a while for someone to online they then send me an email and just calling their id while it says offline kicks it into action. Doesn't really help to know if your daughter is online

Maybe ask your daughter to start a conference call with all three of you.

I assume the person in Australia has added you as a contact?

Sorted now, deleted her as contact, and then added again and it seems to have solved it.Thanks for all the replies
