Currys "Whatever Happens" Insurance - Help

Hi all,

Over the holidays, my television which I bought about 4-5 years ago has broken. It's covered by the Curry's Whatever Happens policy, which i've been paying for monthly since I got it.

In short, does anyone know through experience or otherwise if Currys are likely to offer me a television that is a similar spec to the one I have now, or will they offer me credit to the amount which I originally paid?

Thanks in advance.

What does the policy document suggest?

They will normally attempt to repair it unless they know of a reason not to, such as a recurring manufacturing defect or damage beyond economic repair. The service you have is not insurance, it's a service agreement. Insurance is a secondary feature of the service which is invoked when the product is deemed beyond repair.

If it isn't economically viable to repair then they will select a new TV to match your specification from their range and offer vouchers to that value. You can negotiate for a higher value if their selected replacement isn't to your satisfaction.

Thats useful, thanks guys. I was worried that what you said might be the case as I can see them offering me some substandard replacement.

When it comes to TVs, normally the replacement is much cheaper and better. It can be a shock to receive half of what you originally paid and it's understandable that you'd be disappointed in that case but more often than not, you're getting a fair replacement and that's what the T&C state you're entitled to.

If you don't like what they offer then find out what the offer is based on and pick holes in it until you get some more £££ from them.

It'll be done on equivalent spec, unless the one you bought was pre-owned/non-pristine at a reduced price.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
