Scottish Gas/ British Gas
I only have electricity, no gas supply.
I used a comparison website and it reckons that britsh gas' online saver tarrif is 35% cheaper than my existing Scottish Gas economy 7 tarrif.
I take it its just a free for all when it comes to energy? Ie. Scottish Gas making no attempt whatsoever to help me get a better price for energy when they never once suggested the online saver may be considerably cheaper?
Can I change supplier every few months if I like to keep getting the best deal?

Yes, they are out to make money for their shareholders, supplying electricity is just a side effect.
also if you are in Scotland you can't get supplied from British Gas only Scottish Gas.

Sure but blatantly withholding information and limiting the advice you give to a 20 something couple is pretty bad business when the couple are likely to change supplier never to return.
My Scottish gas comsuption for aug to Oct was 990Kwh, 24p for first 125kwh then 10p there after which amounts to £131 for Aug - Oct.
EDF online saver states 24p per day and 7p per unit. This works out as £90. Is it really that simple a caluclation to prompt changing supplier?
Why would anyone pay the tarrif we are currently paying or is just niave people like myself? Our currently tarrif with British Gas seems exceptionally high.0 -
Naive? No, just decent, trusting human beings.
You don't want to become cynical, bitter and twisted, suspicious nut cases like us, do you?0 -

To be honest its a long boring story that involved Scottish Gas grosely underestimating our usage, not sending us a bill for 11 months and thus leaving us £450 in the red.
So its taken us another 6 months to pay it all off and be in a position to move suppliers.0 -
Scottish gas and British gas are the same company.
I move suppliers every 2 months or so for the cashback via switching sites like quidco.0
