Defaults have been applied to my credit file
Options
Hi all,
I have just checked my credit report and I have had a default applied to each of my 2 personal loans (Northern Rock and Mint).
What happened is that I was made redundant in March 2009 and I was unable to make my usual monthly payments to them from April onwards. I kept in constant contact with them to update them of my status and they were really understanding. I was permitted to make lower repayments to them. In August, I gained employment again and I informed them immediately that I would be making my usual payments and extra payments to clear my arrears.
Northern Rock did send me a notice a few months ago that I was to pay in full, that the outstanding amount had now become due, but when I contacted them, they said it was okay to keep making the payments.
I am shocked that these defaults have been applied, when I have been appraising them of my situation and making payments. I have been making my normal repayments for 2 months already! I have spoken to Northern Rock and I was told to write to their complaints department to ask them to remove it. I have not spoken to Mint yet.
Does anyone have any advice as to how I should approach this, when I put it in writing and to let me know what my chances of having them removed are? I would be very grateful!
Thanks in advance of your help.

I think you will be very lucky if you manage to get the defaults removed.
Both of these accounts were in default and the companies are within their rights to register the accounts as such.
By keeping in touch with them along the way you have stopped any further recovery action taking place and they have been happy to go along with the arrangements you have made to pay.
You have done the right thing by keeping them informed but it does not erase the fact that your accounts were nevertheless in default.
Once you are up to date the accounts should be marked as "satisfied default"0
