I mark AS ICT for AQA - this is my 5th year, do it twice yearly and yest you won't have much of a social life for a couple of wks but I think it pays relatively well for saying you can do it when it suits you - give it a go, you've got nothing to lose0

Forgot to say - saw you marked SATs under ETS (I assume KS3 since you say they've been scrapped)... let's just say it was a lot less painful this year just gone when Edexcel took it over - I had scripts show up ready to go through the markathon two days after the tests had been sat, training done, home - into standardization scripts and onto the live sets....and no trails of UPS guys still coming to my door in mid-August on the offchance I might have some of the hundreds of missing scripts they managed to lose!
OH's mum does GCSE maths and hers is all online marking now done on-screen as well.
I'm a supply teacher though so the work tends to kick in when my supply dies off and the two dovetail quite well - then the money keeps me going over the summer along with tutoring work - because of the way supply work's been utterly decimated I'm trying to build up my alternative sources of income quite a lot these days.
Just was a god-awful paper to mark this year (KS2 English) lots of very ambigious answers, changing guidance and a really boring long-writing task!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Right I've applied for GCSE Science work (inc 3 core subjects seperately - I'm a science teacher) with the board my school uses and for A-Level Psychology with OCR and AQA. I've never taught A Level Psychology but it's what my degree is in and I love it - worth a shot I figure. I don't think they'd pick me for A Level Science.

Definitely is a big commitment. I do a GCSE and an A Level with a week's break in between. A Level is actually easier to mark because it is less faffy! It is pressurised, it does take over your life etc. However, it is all about planning - eg get up an hour earlier and fit a few in. Use your lunch break, free periods etc to fit in another few. It's all about knocking them off! Weekends though are when it all really gets done. AQA are grand to mark for although they are moving to all on screen marking which I don't fancy at all.
Avoid EDEXCEL at all costs. They are a complete nightmare to work for. You can also understand when you're marking for EDEXCEL why it is the preferred exam board for weaker pupils.
Fab post. I've marked for all the big ones, and I can only back up what this poster said - there's a reason Edexcel always feature in those annual stories about lost papers/wrong marks/papers mix-up etc - they're utterly incompetent. Paid utterly random amounts.
The others are good - I second the praise for AQA.
I've done on-screen marking - in many ways it's better, as you don't end up with a huge pile of scripts for the toddler to draw on.0 -
I can't imagine marking 3 or 4 page essays on screen which is what puts me off. Sure I'll get used to it though.0

It's good - you don't have to faff around returning the damn things either.
(She types in a break from more online marking.)0
