Las Vegas/NY Multi-trip which way about?

Hi All

am hopefully off to Las Vegas In Sept and was thinking that we could maybe stop off on the way or on the way back to New York. Does anyone know which is the best way to do this - which one should I go to first?

I read some time ago that one way was the best re time zones etc - but I can't find it!

Any help would be most appreciated!

IMHO go to Las Vegas first and NYC next, because NYC time is closer to UK time so when you arrive back in the UK the jet lag will not be that bad.

Don't know how the cost would work out - it may be best to get a return flight to JFK/Newark and buy an internal return flight seperately?

I would disagree. You want to maximise your "awake" time in USA, so I would stop at NY first, then go to LV.
I found that when we went to Vegas at Easter, we were so tired by the early evening, it took a good few days to get over it.
By going to NY first, the difference is not so bad and you will also have time to get used to the time zones in America.

i would say nyc first because it's a shorter journey. then when you then go to lv you get the benefit of the 3hour time difference aswell. the only thing is if you go to lv at the weekend the hotels are dearer so if money is an issue then you might want to be in nyc at the weekend and lv during the week.hope this helps.

I rather think it depends on what time you plan to fly: spend the longer journey (i.e. UK to/from Vegas) asleep as this will take approx 10 hours.

If you can leave Vegas at, say, 6:00 pm then you will arrive back here around 12:00 noon the next day having slept.

Just work out what feels "natural" in terms of your body clock, which may minimise the disruption. It always takes me a few days to get over the body clock thing when I'm in the US; Europe I can absorb in a day.

If you want to minimise the affect of jet lag when you get home, go to Las Vegas first. The time difference between the UK and NYC is 5 hours, between UK and Las Vegas it is 8 hours. There is a flight from LAS-NYC leaves 11.30am arrives 19.30, takes 5 hours.

So you'd rather be jet lagged at Vegas on holiday rather than at home:confused:

    My opinion.

    NYC first:
    Pro
    Shorter flight
You gain some hours so have more time in New York.
    Pro
You are more likely to have to stop en-route to Vegas anyway (not many good carriers go direct).
    Con
Takes time\hassle to get from airport to Hotel so factor this in.
Look around this web-site for transport from\To all New York airports
    Real pro tip
Arrive in Newark NJ Transport options from here (old thread with more info)
Stay at this hotel through Priceline: Old thread with details
Can cost $55 at the weekend

    Vegas:
    Pro
Short(ish) flight to Vegas (go in AM) and again you gain time so more time to spend.

Leave Vegas in PM and arrive UK in AM.
Worry about jet lag at work:beer:

    Other points
Arrive New York Friday stay 'till Monday
Weekend hotel rates are lower and the Hyatt cheap price is highly likely.
Arrive Vegas on Mon stay 'till Thursday:cheaper and more available hotels.

It looks like opinion is divided. Let me add to the divide :)

Flying west to east is always a bummer for jet lag. As a veteran of more than 60 transatlantic flights, if it were my choice I would take the pain in one go by doing just one west to east flight. My recommendation is to fly to New York first.

We did NY-Vegas-Orlando a few weeks back.
Arrived at NY hotel 8pm ish, wanted to stay up all night, same when arriving in Vegas.Tired and irritable first day in Orlando though, but at least it eased the jet lag once home.
