Acquiring Network Address

Morning all,
Currently at a relatives house and a netbook bought for Christmas is having problems connecting to the wireless. Laptop I'm using now is connected fine, iPod touch connects (although does drop out).

Netbook connects fine with Ethernet cable! But with Wireless despite showing 'connected', appears to be hanging while 'Acquiring Network Address'. Searched a few other forums so far and, checking DHCP client and TCP/IP are both started and set to pick up automatically.

Virgin Broadband - Belkin 54g router - MSi U100 netbook

Any advice very much appreciated.

Cheers.....

Try connecting again, and double check the passphrase is correct, (remember it's case sensitive) and check the status of Numlock and Capslock
  • Have you tried changing the wireless channel?

or open cmd prompt (start - run - cmd) and type

    "netsh reset winsock catalog "

(without the quotes) and Enter. machine will restart and then should get an IP address...sometimes they just need flushing :)

I usually get this if he passphrase needs reentering:
make sure the correct wireless network is being connected to and re-enter the correct password before trying to connect again.
