Car Insurance Renewal & claim pending

Hi all,

can someone give me some advice please? I have been driving for 7 years with no accidents and I had a very minor bump in March of this year, I rolled into the rear on the car in front of me at a junction at under 1mph. The other party is claiming 12/14 months rehab for whiplash and phycological injury for her and her 3 kids. My insurance company are going for fraudulant claim as all evidence suggest I was set up, this claim is still pending and prob will be into next year as they have put her under survellence. My car insurance with them is due for renewal in Jan and the quote they have sent is £300 more than last year (and they have knocked my NCB down from 7 to 3) and I dont want to pay it. The question i have is can I change my car insurance at renewal time to a more competitive quote without affecting my pending claim with the current insurer? I was planning on staying with them to make things simpler but at an extra £300 a year I think its disgusting. All advice woudl be appreciated,
Thanks

Irrespective of the fraudulent side of the claim there is still a valid claim pending - you still possibly damaged that other persons car. So you will have lost the no-claims.

If you move to a new Insurer you will need proof of no-claims from your existing Insurer. If you already have this and claim 7 years no claims with your new Insurer then you are effectively defrauding them and could have any future claims refused or have your cover withdrawn if they find out. Motor Insurers use a database to check on claims.

    Your choice, your call.

  • There was no damage to either car and the claimant is not claiming for damage to car just personal injury. I have got quotes using 3 NCB as described by my current insurer, I have declared the accident as "I hit another vehicle and the claim is unsettled" I have made that known on the other quotes. The quotes coming back are around £260 as oppsoed to £460 with my current insurer, so you can see why I am enquiring as to whether it is possible to change to a new insurer at renewal with a claim pending.
All I wanted to know was it possible to change to someone else and would it affect my pending claim.

In that case, then yes you can change with a pending claim.

Changing wont affect your pending claim, my son changed mid-claim as they quadrupled his premium. My only thoughts are if you do change companies and the claim is refused, would the old company let you know and reinstate your NCB back to 7 years? Also, in my sons case, once we went through to buy the policy, they needed a settlement value, even though the claim hadn't been settled !! ,
