My son is finishing sixth form this month. He wants to go to a local college in September. Because he will be 19 on the day they enrole he's been told he has to pay the full fees for the course. Are there any grants assistance for people in his predicament. We were told that if the course start date had been 1 day later he wouldnt have had to pay a thing.
Any help desperately needed

I thought the rules were you had to be under 19 on 1st September rather than the day the course commences, I wouls check this very carefully. I know where I work if the student you get three free years education after leaving school so in effect he would be ok at our college.0

For those students aged under 19 at the commencement of the course (students eligible for LSC funding) there is no charge for tuition or examination fees. Therefore, if a student is under 19 on 31 August in the academic year they commence the course, the College will not charge for the course. If a student withdraws then subsequently wishes to re-apply fees may be charged.
Can you make sense of the above ???? I have quoted it off a website but can not find a rule book, try ringing connexions. I think he may be a yera too old looking at this but no harm in trying is there.0 -
Also might be worth trying....
I'm 20 signed up for stoke-on-trent college, officially as a uni student i earn like £4k a year at a job and thats it, so im entitled to the Student Assistance that benefits and similar people get, might just be Stoke since it gets lots of Government money...? But worth a try since he has left six form im guessing he's not earning £20k PA? I did have to pay to enter exams, and this courses were part-time and i don't live at home but HTH anyway.

This college says he has to pay. Been to Learn Direct, Connexions, County Council. He stands a better chance if we disown him!!!!!!!!. Everything wants to take parents earning into account as well.
Seems they want ti both ways.0
