Natwest "Overlimit" fee and "Small balance writeoff"

Currently, I am in Uruguay in South America. So ringing Natwest isn't going to necessarily be easy or practical for me.

That said, can anyone at all explain what this means?

Some information before hand;
- Natwest student/graduate credit card
- £500 limit
- £500 available

Now, I made sure that I had paid off everything this month and as it turns out, I had paid slightly less than the closing balance. As a result, on the 21st a £7 payment (the minimum payment for my card that month) went in and this brought my account slightly into credit - a few quid and pennies over £0.

Today I check my online statement because I bought something here on the 26th. This is what I saw as the last 3 entries;

21 Dec 2009 PAYMENT DIRECT DEBIT PAYMENT THANK YOU £7.00 - <- This is a payment into my account

24 Dec 2009 WRITE-OFF SMALL BALANCE WRITE-OF £0.66 - <- This is a payment into my account

24 Dec 2009 DEBIT OVERLIMIT FEE - £12.00 <- This is a payment OUT OF my account

So there are some questions.

Firstly, what is a small balance write-off?
Secondly, what is an over limit fee?
Thirdly, why are these being applied to my account (again, worth noting my balance is exactly £0, and previously it had been above this by a few quid)

Also, I have not gone overdrawn ever on my credit card.

Anyone who can offer some insight, advice or even suggest a different forum to post in would get lots of gratitude.

Thanks!

    Thanks!

    As above points, you incurred overlimit fee as you were over your credit limit.
    No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

    no idea what my nerdnumber is - i am now officially nerd 229, no idea on my debt free date
  • I don't think you understand. I was IN CREDIT. As in, I had over £500 available (I paid off more than I needed to, which has happened before; I just usually spend it though)
  • Small debt write off sounds like the account is closed...but the fact that the £12 was added is a little confusing though albeit explained by the OP. Can you clarify that payments have been made to the credit card and that it has not been closed ie it still shows up on internet banking balances?
    I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

  • Yep. I accessed all this through online banking.

    The 66p was credited TO my account. The £12 was taken AWAY.

    Plus the card still works. I used it here in Uruguay in a shop, though this hasn't shown up yet (as of today, Monday).

    Had my letter from A&L today basically saying they will not refund with 8 weeks to respond or my case will be closed.Surely it is down to the courts to throw it out.I have paid for a small court hearing and that is what I will have.(unless thrown out of course).Surely A&L wasn't part of the test case but they took advantage of the waiver and in theory haven't won anything in court.:confused:
