Reducing my BT Bill

In the past I used my home phone a lot but since I got an iphone with inclusive minutes until March 2011 I use that instead. My last BT bill in November has low usage charges on it for 1571 & caller display and as a result I have some questions :
  1. I don't use caller display anymore so is there any way of opting out of it?
  2. What phonecalls do I have to make to stop me getting the low user charge for 1571?
  3. Can someone also help me get my head around which package I would be better off on? Currently I'm on Unlimited Weekend plan and being charged £12.50 a month for a phone I hardly use! I read something about a BTBasic for those on Income Support... but I have no idea whether its suitable for me or not?
Off to look over the rest of my budget - new year new start and all that ;)

Hello there, you have to ring BT to cancel caller display, i think it is 30 days.

Ring BT and cancel the 1571, thats all.

Do you have SKY, you can pay your telephoen line through SKY, i think its about £1. cheaper than BT, you also get free evening and weekend calls to SKY on the telephone, as well as free basic broadband,

(i think SKY includes 1571 and caller display, but ask them, i'm not sure that you have to opt in to have it free.

My monthly calls bill last month was 50p
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

You can dump the caller display and 1571 just call customer services. So that way you would keep your free weekend calls and not pay more then £12.50 if you don't use the telephone.

Sign up to paper-free billing and BT we'll give you £1.25 off your BT line rental each month. That's a saving of £15.00 a year.

Even better for the op then loose the caller display and 1571 and sign up to paper free billing £11.25 and keep the free weekend calls with no low usage fee in sight. Sounds like the best idea.

By the way you can't get BT Basic if you have a phone service provided by another company (either directly or not directly).

Do I have to call them to cancel these or is there another way? I HATE calling BT. I sure have asked in the past for these to be cancelled by phoning them and its only since the low user charges have been made that I've realised they're still on my account :mad:

There is an online way - click HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • I will suggest though, If you decide to opt for online payment...you must stay on top of your bills, because they will only notify that you've missed a payment when they are close to cutting you off.

THANK YOU!!! I get lost & then frustrated on the BT website so easily :o I actually found a link to the order section on that page when it timed out trying to contact BT  I've now cancelled caller display and 1571. :D:j:j:money::money::money:

I'm off to see if I can find any more of my bills to cut ;)
