Why does it need a powerflush? Did he say? Does "a warning on leaks" mean that its possible that the powerflush could disturb any carp thats blocking a leak which wasn't before but will afterwards? If so thats a very sensible warning indeed 'cos it can happen.

Actually I think thats maybe cheap. Boiler Service on its own can be anywhere between £ 50 and £ 100 plus parts (both very "ish") depending on where you live. How long is he going to poweflush for? If its anything less than 4½ - 5 hours then tell him to do one - waste of your money as he will not have done it properly.

    Just my 2c.

    Cheers

  • totally agree with the above. needs flushing for at least 5 hours.
  • Have you 10mm (microbore) pipework? If so I'd avoid a powerflush as this will most certainly cause leaks.

I agree that it is too cheap. Take away the chemicals and the investment in the equipment and training (not a huge amount in the long term), the time getting to the job, and you are not left with a huge amount to pay for someone who really knows what they are doing.

80% if jobs are straightforward; it's the difficult 20% of jobs that need someone who has the experience and the time on the job that you have to be careful with. Unfortunately, in most cases, there is no 100%, foolproof, way of knowing how long a job will take before it starts.

You will get what you pay for. An experienced powerflushing engineer/technician will take only how long it takes to do a proper job. And you can't skimp on time so it has to be covered in the quote. Then there are the insurances, the gas safe registration fees, the bank charges, blah, blah, blah. All add up.

In my experience £360 is too cheap.

On the other hand, I am biased. I know that a good powerflush can work wonders.

Incidentally, we have not found that 10mm microbore is any more likely to leak than 8mm, 15mm, 22mm, etc. (All things being equal.)

8mm does need to be treated with extra care. For potential blockages not leakages.

Blimey, just re-read your question. Our charge for servicing your boiler would be £65.00 inc VAT.

Important; You don;t say why you need this done. What are your symptoms? What alternatives have you been offerred?

    Best wishes

the question is does it really need a powerflush ??

when the heating is on does the bottom of the rads get hot ..?? if they do then it doesnt need one ....be very carefull is very easy to be told you need a powerflush when a lot of the time you dont ..

also check out the idea of fitting a magnaclean ..search for it in google and you will see what it is ..i cannot post links for some reason ..

this is not ture ..it needs flushing for as long as it takes for it to be clean this could be anything from 30min to 8 hours depending on the system size boiler etc ....and what powerflush machine you use ..
