TV Screen size problem!!

Is it normal to adjust the screen size almost every time I switch channels?
When I press aspect I have list of alternatives but never seem to get these quite right.
I thought Automatic would adjust each programme correctly but it does not.
Even the option to allow subtitles leaves half the bottom line missing.
Widescreen leaves black top and bottom and Panorama hides some of the screen as it is too big.
I have a 32inch Bush TV and a Humax Digital Recorder and the problem is the same on both!
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Really, don't worry about it. There are too many different formats being transmitted for TV's to be able to perfectly recreate them all. There's 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 and 2.35:1.
The only (unreasonable) alternative would be to have one display for each format!Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
sometimes you can set the aspect ratio on both the tv and the digital box. So, if you have the digibox set to 4:3 and the tv on 16:9 it'll look rubbish.
If youre watching digital, just keep both on16:9 and you'll be fine unless it's an old program then put the tv on 4:3.0 -
On my Panasonic, setting the format to 4:3 seems to autoswitch to 16:9 when appropriate - I have the setting permanently on 4:3 as I get really irritated when 4:3 is stretched and everyone looks short and tubby.0

Or of course they could look really skinny and 9 feet tall...Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0
