I wonder if anyone can help. I am using MS works spreadsheet 6 and have a problem

Sorry I tried but I am unable to paste the spreadsheet formulas

What I am trying to do is calculate the likely tax owed at the end of a year

123456etc are the row numbers
A B C D E are the column numbers
7000 is the amount of savings interest in a tax year
6475 is the personal allowance
2440 is the savings interest income that is charged at 10% tax over the personal allowance
Any interest above £6475 plus £2440 needs to be charged 20% tax

I would like to see a box with the 10% tax
a box with the 20% tax
and a box with the total of the 10 and 20% tax

a lot to ask I know

My formulas work well if the savings income is over £6,475 + £2,440 IE £10,000, but if they are only £7,000 I get a -£191.50 in the totals box that I do not want - If I use autosum to add the -191.50 to the 52.50 gives an incorrect answer

E4 is 10% of 525.00
E5 should not show anything

E13 + E14 are correct if I use autosum on them

Is there a formula I can use so I can autosum the boxes in column E row 4 and 5

and autosum column E rows 13 and 14 - one that will work with a 10,000 figure and a 7,000 figure?

Thank you for any help you can give

Sorry I tried but I am unable to paste the spreadsheet formulas

Thank you for the tip on displaying a spreadsheet. Until I can do that the explanation of the MS works 6 spreadsheet problem I have is better explained below.

    . A

    1.. 20

    2. -30

    3 ..-5

    4... 5

    5

In A5 I need a formula that will give me a result of 25 and not count any negative numbers.

How complicated. Why not just add up all your income, deduct your allowances and then charge the tax at appropriate rates?

:j Brilliant - the formula jimmo suggested works!

Its in my spreadsheet now - just perfect!

It would have really bugged me if I had to use a calculator or paper and pen to add the totals up

many, many thanks to jimmo :T
