Skoda Fabia - Warning Sounds Stopped
About 6 months ago, I heard a sizzling sound behind the dash board of my Skoda Fabia and since then the warning sound effects (like the clicking of the trafficators and the chime when you open the driver's door and leave the lights on) have stopped.
I was not too worried about this and left it for repair until the car was due for service, a few days ago.
When I collected the car, the (Skoda) dealer told me that they had not fixed the warning sounds because the problem was within the "dashboard plug-in unit" which would need replacing as a whole unit and would cost about £400.
I have no reason to think the dealer is trying to rip me off as I have been a customer for 4 years with them and always found them fair and straight forward to deal with.
I elected not to have this done because of the cost, and also because they did not have one in stock anyway, but I am surprised that such a seemingly simple fault could be in a unit that costs so much to replace.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Why not get the unit from a recon parts specialist at a fraction of the price?0
-
Any ECU specialist will be able to repair the module at a fraction of that price.
Although if the car passes an MOT, I wouldn't bother.0 -
Yes, the car passed its MOT while being serviced, so I think I'll let sleeping dogs lie.
Thanks for the replies0 -
The only thing to be wary of is now that the part is faulty it may short out at some point and cause damage to other components.0

Old-fashioned term for direction indicators now apparently called Indipointers.
