You can get a free 0844 number to divert to french landlines (caller pays 5p/min, no cost to you).
If you have an O2 mobile contract you could divert to an 0844 number out of your inclusive minutes.

    Hope this helps.

It would be cheaper to phone a France number direct. 18185 currently charge 0.5p/min to French landlines plus 4p connection.

many VoIP providers give you a number that you can easily redirect - try Skype, Voipfone, Voiptalk or one of the Finarea companies such as Voipbuster, Voipcheap, etc

or there are other cheap 0844 number providers such as Cheapercallrate, costing the caller 2p per minute from landlines

in fact if your French installation were to be VoIP, then no call forwarding is involved, so no charges incurred

Definitely checkout VoIP with https://www.internetcalls.com as you can get a UK number from them (for free) AND can phone back to the UK 01/02 for free (subject to their fair use 300 mins/7 days policy).

Used it (and their allied VoipBuster) a lot between UK and Italy over the last 3 months and been VERY pleased indeed. Not 100% reliable so not suited to a business purpose, but definitely reliable enough for a regular human/keep in touch purpose.

I use a USB Trust Internet Phone Station ST1200 Trust # 14485 at just £17.99 from https://www.7dayshop.com to integrate it with my standard DECT phone too (as I leave my PC on all day with its USB).
