My grandaughter composes music on her pc. Someone in the house has done some damage to the computer, but noone will admit to it. Now she is unable to use it, The keyboard isn't recognised, neither is the mouse and the Go Back refuses to do what it is supposed to do. Is there any software or hardware that will allow her to transfer the files to another computer?
The OS is Win98SE.

First offf check that the light comes on with the keyboard on boot up , if so then thats ok , if not the thing may just have been put in the wrong "socket" at the back by some one.
To transfer files you will need to network, copy to cd or removable device or pull the hd to put into another machine .
I wouldnt just assume that something has been broken by someone , pcs can and do just break , especially if they are used incorrectly like powering off manually before its ready for example ,moving while on or just hardware death.0 -
Another option, assuming it is not the hard drive itself at fault, is to connect to to another PC and get at the files that way. Not that difficult to do if you have a basic knowledge of PC hardware and Windows Explorer.
Sadly, it is not until something like this happens that the value of data backups become apparent.
And I am [almost] as guilty as the next person. :-[0 -

Can you use the cd drive in Safe Mode?0
