    Ok, challenge time...

Googled Asjan Su, and it came up with (only) this hit http://www.lycaeum.org/mv/ircbot/PARALINGUA2.php?VOLUME=2&ARTICLE=246&PAGE=30&REF=Cyn

Anyone recognise the language? (asjan su is 5th/4th last of the first paragraph) - this site isn't dodgy by the way - information exchange about hallucinogenics apparently.

A website I went to said the language was Dutch. That website gave me a headache

Reed.co.uk says the company hiring is Albion Computer Services (Swansea), there is one registered in London but that is a sole trader

The company in Swansea doesn't appear to have a website, which in my eyes is a bad thing, any company promoting as much as that would be popular enough to have a website.

That and I've had one of these things a year ago, which I turned down as I suspected it was a scam

Here's the info taken from the company information, it could be legit but I'd rather not risk it. Doesn't seem right to me :)

    Company Type: Private Limited Company
    Nature of Business (SIC(03)):
    7230 - Data processing

    ALBION COMPUTER SERVICES LIMITED
    PIPEHOUSE WHARF
    MORFA ROAD
    SWANSEA
    SA1 1TD
    Company No. 01388241
Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

    Working towards DFD

    HSBC Credit Card - £2700 / £7500
    AA Loans - (cleared £9700)
  • It's definitely not Dutch. And I'm fairly confident it's not Frisian either. My boyfriend is a Dutchy so I know and recognise the language quite well!

It looks more like an Asian language to me. Maybe Malaysian or Indonesian or something along those lines?

Even more boggling is if you go to the main part of the site, there is a symbol which indicates currency, although, I can't figure out which currency this is as of yet. But it's an ℜ symbol... Some of them have conversions in brackets next to them into $ and also one into yen. However, using XE, I've been unable to decipher further what it is.

Agreed, I don't have a Dutch partner, but have a Dutch friend who I play computer games with and it didn't look that language to me either as I can strangely understand some stuff he says :D

The domain itself is registered to someone in Portugal, anyone here speak Portuguese?

Anyways, just went to another site, and it said

    The language is
    Slovak

    It's not Portuguese.

Just done some digging... It looks like it's some kind of "created" language called "paralingua".

    Google it! :)
  • Well as it's that Ltd company showing up on www. jobisjob. co.uk/albion-computer-services-limited/job-offers and companies house shows the company has existed for over 30 years then you would hope it's legit and they've landed a large contract and are massively expanding. The small compabies exemptions they've used are only applicable up to £5.2 million turnover and there seems to be a lot of branches mentioned.
The best signature is a nonexistent signature, leaving more space for intellectual and considerate topic discussion ;)

Lol, probably the same person who created the language created that website, they must have been spaced out when they made it. My head started hurting within a couple of minutes

I would go by the companies house information, I don't rely on job sites for that information
It's possible it's legit, but I'd rather wait and see, my gut instinct says it's a load of crap

Either that or it's going to be one where you can get £10 an hr OTE, or ProRata or how many calls you take that kind of thing

Well, it sort of bothers me for a few reasons.

I saw another reference code for the same job posted on livejournal by a user. I think I googled the e-mail to find it.

I typed that reference in Google and got the same site, but a different page.

Apparently, Paralingua is some kind of "anagram" nonsense which relates to "nothing".

Now... It could be coincidence.. It could also be a link to it being a "scam".. I'd just be wary. I was one of the stupid ones that did apply, and did receive an e-mail, but with an 0800 number and no reference. Even more suspicious it has said on reed that my application has been "rejected" but I should still ring the number.. Which set alarm bells off immediately and also how I found out about this (after googling the number).

    Lesson learned.

I don't think it's the same company, the one in Swansea is called ALBION COMPUTER SERVICES LIMITED, but the one in London is called ALBION COMPUTER SERVICES. No LIMITED?

PS. Sorry for the caps, copy and paste job.
  • This is a scam. If you type the telephone number you are asked to reply to into Google search, the search comes up with job advertisements for this bogus company in just about every conceivable large town. There is even an advertisement in Chinese.
There is a legitamate computer services called Albion but it is not this one, this one is not registered with company house plus the email contact is an ordinary yahoo email that anyone can set up.
There are other links on the internet regarding this same scam but being a new user I am not allowed to paste links yet.
