My 12 month contract ends mid February. I realise I have to cancel a months notice before.
So far they have told me just to call them up - but I feel a bit concerned about doing this.
a) I have no proof that I have asked them to cancel. (unlike having a written notice with registered mail receipt).
b) I am certain they will probably transfer me to the dreaded 'retentions' team, the last time I had to go through this procedure I had to tell the person repeatedly that Im not interested in staying. It really ruined my day.
but they havent given the option of writing to cancel the contract, im wondering also if I can write to them now, giving them longer than 1month notice, or does it have to be exactly one month before?
I hate contracts.

You can cancel by phone or in writing.
It is never a good idea to cancel any service with anyone purely by telephone.
Cancel by phone and pop a letter in the post the same day to arrive at least 1 month before the expiry of contract. It does not have to be exactly one month but must meet the minimum term.0
