Problems with Wii Fit

I have been given a Wii Fit for Christmas. However, every time I try to use it, following the instructions, it will not get past "Step off the board and press button A". I step off, press button A and the message keeps reappearing.
It is on virtually pile-less carpet. I have re-synchronised the board, reset the software, checked batteries, checked everything in the troubleshooting section, but still cannot get past this point!
Could the board be faulty or am I doing something wrong? Please help me before I get fit by kicking it round the garden;)

Yes. It said it was synchronised and had created a Save File, just as the instructions said.0

Sorted by hubby!:j He found a small bit of dog fur on one of the legs - removed and hey presto - working properly! Can't believe it is that sensitive. We will now be placing it on a rubber mat in future.
Thanks to all for your suggestions.:beer:0
