Have tried yoghurt, strawberry milkshake and the promise of a new toy and still nothing worked. Spoke the local pharmacist and she said that it didn't look too bad and that the doctor had probably gave the penicillin as standard for things like this so to see how it looks over the weekend and if it still hasn't improved by monday to go and see the doctor again but obviously if it gets any worse then take her up to the A&E in the local kids hospital and they'll give her something else for it.

It's looking better since I put some cream on it earlier but the annoying thing is that it's on her left hand and she's left handed so she's trying to use her right hand instead and she keeps dropping everything, and the little madam is so independent that she won't let you help her with anything.

    Thanks for all your help.

It's Flucloxacillin and its pink, to be honest it does really stink and I think I'd be a bit aprehensive about taking it. I remember the orange one and if i'm right it smells ok, maybe ask for that one if she has to get more.

At work i often have to get kids to take medicine they dont like ......
I know this may sound brutal but put it in a syringe and squirt it down the back of her throat ( hold her down if you have to)......
working in a&e the kids come in with temps of 40 degrees and most parents dont like the idea of suppositries so its has to be orally sometimes

Also with my own kids i squeeze their cheeks together ( not hard though) hope this helps........that flucloxacillin is the worse tasting one!!

When my daughter was little, Rosie( her favourite teddy) always tried the medicine first, and teddy was praised for being brave. With patience DD soon started taking the medicine, all be it tentatively.
It seems from what you say, that your daughter associates the medicine with a negative experience,ie she took it fine the 1st time, but was nearly sick (negative experience),but has refused it since(apprehensive re feeling sick again). With this in mind, the advice from the pharmicst sounds good.

This link has some ideas http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/ask_the_doctor/medicinechildrenswallow.shtml

Honestly, the only thing I ever found that worked every single time is a product called FlavorRX. As you can see from the spelling it's a US product, comes in something like 48 differnt flavours, and is mixed in by the chemist. Unfortunately, it's not yet available in the UK.

I've always wondered if one could add something like concentrated cake flavouring, although I've never tried it (and most of them have an alcohol base which might make it inadvisable). My own children are of an age where I can simply say "If you don't take your medicine, you can't drive the car"!

If one of the rules on the medicine doesn't involve 30 minutes after food etc I find mixing it with jam works
One day I might be more organised...........

my two will only take medicine from a plastic syringe (from kids neurophen) because they don't taste it on their lips, it just goes straight to the back of the throat.... they hated the taste on their lips when using a spoon.....

when you pick the prescription up from the the chemist, ask them for a plastic syringe that you use to give babies their medicine instead of the plastic spoon they normally put in the bag. Whenever i ask they give me a syringe free. I still use the syringe on my 4 1/2 yr old.
