OK, it's a Hotpoint Aquarius 1200 Plus, the instruction book says it's for Models WM61 to WM65 but I'm not sure whether that's relevant.
Not sure how old it is, probably 3+ years.
It fills with water and it pumps and spins the water out, but it doesn't do any agitating in between. I thought it was just sticking, so have 'clicked' it through a wash, but realise now that it is just not doing its stuff.
Resident expert has had a listen and says it sounds as if either the belt or the motor have 'gone'. He doesn't wish to investigate further.
So, is it worth calling in a Washing Machine Expert to see if repair is economical, or shall I save my pennies and look for a new washing machine?
It has been a pretty good machine so far, hammered with an average of at least one wash a day throughout its life.

Hi
I believe if you call out a hotpoint engineer it's £90 to start with then it's £ by the hr ( labour) & £ parts unless your covered by a insurance etc then he will come & the cost will be labour & parts.
If you really think you know whats up with it then look model, no & serial no up on internet, download files for parts, phone hotpoint parts centre & order what you need. then it's down to stripping machine ( not that 2 difficult, prob 6 out of 10 (hardest ) replace part, put back together & if machine has a reset button ( read instructions ) remember to press or reset it then it's away you go.
I sorted the drum & motor on my hotpoint 2 years ago & it's still going strong ( touch wood! )
But if you don't want to do that then it's hunt a cheap washing machine or pay an engineer i'm afraid.
Hope I have helped?If you have a problem! Build a bridge N get over it! :hello:0 -
Yes thanks! I can at least look up the cost of parts and do a 'worst case' scenario on them.
the biggest problem is going to be getting the washing machine out of its hole and into an area where one can actually start to see what's what ...
Not as bad as I thought! Home visit £35, including diagnosis. Then a fixed charge of £60 for labour for repairs, and a note that parts are free if under 5 years old which I'm certain it is. Just not sure I can find the receipt.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If it "spins the water out" i.e. the drum rotates then it is not likely to be the motor, belt or capacitor. Having said that, sometimes the capacitor can cause this type of problem so its worth looking. Its a cylindrical object and if not perfect usually blow up and you can see this very clearly.
Of course it could always be a loose connection block on the programmer, on the board or on the motor connections.
It is most likely to be the motor controller board, but as an outside chance could be the programmer. Normally the part on the board that goes (triac or scr) is around £1-2. Again, usually very easy to see as they are no longer rectangular. Replacement boards come in at about £30-£70.0
