Homebuyer report

Options
Hi,

We recently had a homebuyer survey done and there were some items which we are not sure of.

"Provide ventilation to roof void. Normally recommended that where impervious felts are fitted beneath the main roof cover, some form of ventitlation should be provided. to assist in the dispersal of any moisture which may form and potentailly lead to rot or decay of the timbers."
- any idea how much these would costs?

"Materials were found to outbuilding roof which may contain asbestos. These appear to be in satisfactory condition at present and should present no health rik if undisturbed."
- Surprisingly, this was not highlighted as an action point. Knowing how dangerous asbestos can be, I'm a bit worried. I have surf the web and most of the information is to leave it alone unless you are renovating it. The worst case sceanrio is to remove it, any idea how much it would cost to remove asbestos?

Thank you!

ventilation blocks are usually cheap. If you have a bricked area you take a couple of bricks out and replace them with those grids with holes in, dont know their name. Otherwise you do the same with soffit boards. I would guess at £100-200 to get someone in to do it for you, depending where you live.

Asbestos sheets in good condition are not a danger to health. The danger comes when you break them up. We have had a similar problem on a survey except the asbestos sheets are in poor condition and the roof needs redo-ing. Personally I would leave alone, there's no problem so why fix it. If you do remove it (and I really can't see the point) you should get a professional firm in to do it. I've been quoted £600 just for the removal. That is by professional asbestos handlers and it is outer London prices. I'm talking about an old garage roof if you want to guess the size involved.
