  • Sorry to be a pessimist ( or maybe a realist ) , but if you are asking

    a) Do I need a business plan

    and

    b) where can I get a template specific to starting a college

... then I really don't hold out much hope for your success.

Anyone contemplating any business should have a plan - it could be 10 sides of A4 or a 200 page document - but it needs to be done.

There is no easy way - no template - you have to do the thinking yourself. Got one! I havent seen one before so it was hard to know what to include.

As Savvy Sue has mentioned already, there are a multitude of issues to cross.

Will you need CRB checks, affiliation to professional bodies, H & S reviews and audits? Can you even call yourself a college without official authorisation?

am aware of all the authorisation we need, including from civil aviation authority and BAC

If you want to proceed with this you will need a lot of money a lot of time and a lot of effort.

i know my questions seem daft as most of you are experienced. i can understand how stupid i seem:rotfl: but i am not really..:rotfl:

You are neither daft or stupid.

That said I think it is only right to inject a little bit of realism into some of the posts on this board.

If you have the answers to our questions then good for you.

Hi! Wow am getting shot down by some here. I have NOT put SO MUCH information in my original post to keep it brief and short. I didn’t know that excluded me from asking some basic questions. Things are going really well. Lots of research and hard work but a steep learning curve. Will let you know if and when it is launched.

I know I might seem dumb going from all my posts! That’s OK….!

It's definitely good not to overload posts with too much information :)

Business statistics invariably pass into the stuff of "old wives tales" but if you believe some stats as many as half of all new startups fail within 5 years. As you are unlikely to recoup your startup costs in 5 years that means you will be left with debt.

What doesn't get mentioned so much is how few businesses that are left are making a decent profit. I see so many businesses that don't close simply because their owners are earning a pittance and working long hours, they would be better off taking a minimum wage job.

So I guess most people on this board will be pessimists as for every 10 people that come along and start a new business 5 will be left in debt and perhaps only 2 or 3 will make a decent profit.

I bet if you analysed only those businesses that had undergone in depth planning and research before starting up and with realistic and measurable goals the failure rate would be considerably lower. Any criticism is designed to be constructive, I raise points because I would rather see someone not start a business than loose a fortune.

You should read their business plan template on setting up a regional airline - it's hilarious!

Be very careful when using these - they are US made and a lot of americanised business jargon will make you look a bit daft if presented over here...
