Hi, I get my sugarpaste from my local cake decorating shop, she sells 5Kg of white for £12. You can also get it from Morrisons and Tesco but it's a cheaper quality, around £2.20 for 1 Kg. I've not seen it anywhere cheaper that this. I've used this loads and it's fine. I've seen cheap sugarpaste online, but after you've added the postage it becomes more expensive. :)

I made some cupcakes today and I wondered if you lovely ladies could let me know what you think?

The icing doesn't look very smooth :( I just made them in normal cases to practice the icing. I used half butter and half trex, does anybody else us that?

I feel like i've got a long way to go before I could think about selling these. :o I am seeing some improvement though so that's good.

If you click on the picture, a big one should open up.

Thanks, I appreciate any feedback. I worry that my friends and family say "yeah they're great" just to please me, I want to hear what people really think. ;):)

I always use unsalted butter, not keen on using Trex, although thats what the Americans seem to use. What nozzle are you using, the best one Ive found is a 1M, Wilton I think but im sure youre local sugarcarft shop would sell them. They do look yummy. xxx

hi Hayley, they are looking fine, i dont use trex at all but use either unsalted butter with a dribble of milk or half butter, half stork with a drop of vanilla essence. think they would look stunning with a white daisy on the top! morrisons have brilliant cases which are thick and strong and great for cupcakes think they were about 60p for 75 cases but they are only in brown but keep their shape really well which may help with your decorating. i use a star nozzle ( no idea what size ) and always put the icing back into the fridge for 10mins or so before i use it

Thanks :) These were done with the Wilton 1M. I think now i've got the proper nozzle, I probably should've just used my normal buttercream recipe and see how they came out :o

My little nephew is coming round on Wednesday so I can "help him" make some cupcakes for his teachers so i'll try again with my usual buttercream recipe.

I think I just need to practice a lot more, i'm sure i'll get better one day

Thanks, i've just been using Stork, maybe that's why it's quite runny sometimes? I'll get some proper butter tomorrow. I thought i'd try Trex because that's what all the youtube recipes use but I wasn't overkeen on the taste.

Thanks for the tip for the cases :)

yeah stork goes too soft and fluffy! and tends to be too greasy when used on its own, if your colouring i would use paste or powder rather than liquid colouring, dont hesitate to ask any questions - we're all learning as we go i think~!

Thanks :) So glad i've found people to ask!

The colours i've got at the moment are like really thick liquid, I think they're for sugarpaste? I have got some powder colours as well, i'll use them next time.

I didn't realise Stork was the problem, thank you! I shall definitely buy some proper butter tomorrow. :j

the thick liquid is fine, just use the tesco value unsalted butter.
