Hi guys. I have Thunderbird set up on my laptop and I have one of my hotmail accounts set up in it, which I use for many of my websites and also entering some of the comps on here.
However, having logged into it seperately via a webpage recently, I have realised that any 'junk' mail is not coming through to Thunderbird - I essentially could have missed out on WEM's
A techie friend of mine told me that hotmail is not the best email client to use with thunderbird due to this. So I would like to set up an email address to use in thunderbird, purely for comping. How do I do this so that both accounts are still in thunderbird? Also, what is the best (free) email client to go for? Need to make sure the junk mail will be downloaded.
Thanks in advance!

I switched from Outlook Express to Thunderbird earlier this year. I generally use Gmail - I find it more reliable than Yahoo, but by default it has a junk mail feature enabled. I followed these instructions to disable it:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/11/24/how-to-disable-and-deactivate-spam-filter-protection-in-gmail-or-google-mail/
An alternative method I haven't tried:
http://www.xiirus.net/articles/article-disable-or-bypass-gmails-junk-spam-email-filter-27eja.aspx
When I started using Gmail it had POP - the system email software uses to download email - disabled. This might still be the case, so log into Gmail on the Web, click the 'Settings' link at the top right, then select one of the two 'Enable Pop' options, then click 'Save Changes' at the button.0 -
You're accessing Hotmail via POP which only downloads what is in the Inbox. As Hotmail filters messages automatically, you don't get what is in the Junk folder.
A simple solution would be to use Windows Live Mail, which has full Hotmail support and would give you access to all the folders in your Hotmail account. It is Outlook Express' replacement and is infinitely superior - more akin to Outlook.0
