just seen a topic on the dell forums (by the OP) and from the reply, it sounds like the motherboard will need to be replaced because of the dead bios0

Seconded. You've bricked it. When you were flashing the BIOS and it appeared to freeze, did you only leave it a minute or so before turning it off? Some models can take a couple of minutes or more to flash and appear as if they've locked up, unresponsive to controls. They haven't. If you'd left it 5 minutes and it was still locked up then yes, there most likely was a problem but a minute or two is pretty normal.0
