Laptop Keeps Freezing

My HP Pavillion laptop keeps freezing, it works fine for a while, then just stops, and often restarts.
It also doesn't always start up properly, and shows 'operating system not found'. I've done a factory reinstall, and am running Vista. I use Kapersky Internet Security, which has been fine in the past'.
I had the same problem a while back, when I installed AVG 9.0, but it's been fine since I uninstalled that.

Is it beginning to overheat ?? Have you ever hovered over the air vents/cleaned out the accumulated dust inside ?? Disturbed the hard drive ?? Do you use it on soft surfaces mostly ??
A bit more detail will help to pin down what's going on............Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

No, it has overheated in the past, so I use it on a laptop stand with integrated fan.
I've never opened the case or hoovered anything out.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

lappy stand - good....would still trry and clean any carp from inside (hoover/compressed air)
Can you run chkdsk on it ?? open computer, right-click on hdd, select properties, error-checking...try this first.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Running chkdsk now. What is the best/safest way to clean dust out?[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

I always run the hoover over all the vents, and remove fan covers (if accessible) and do under there too. If it looks pretty bad under there, then aerosol can of compressed air to blow it out......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
