Post it, walk away and try not to worry about what may/may not be.

I completely understand how you are feeling as I did the same recently. I was backed into having to make a choice about one of my loans which I had planned to leave paying off for another 2 years.

Like you, I preferred the feeling of having a big cushion should something happen.

And for a few days you will wonder if you have done the right thing.

And you have. You cant change what will be later on but you have done good now.

When I was on JSA, they only wanted to know if you have any savings at the time... IIRC, If you have anything over £6k(?), then you wont get income based support.

If you've spent all your money on beer and women (and wasted the rest  ), then theyre happy to give you JSA. But if you've been clever enough to save anything for such a situation, then you get diddly squat!

Stop worrying and get it done!

Well done - have you kept up your benefits challenge.

    Sammy,

b/f and I have spent afternoon building futon that was threatening to blow the budget...it is SOOO much nicer than anything I could have bought for £50..or even a few hundred, it's wood, solid, classic! (and needs waxing etc..)

rewarded myself with shoes(£5).. and some groceries. Some of his shopping too so will need to divide reciept.. update thread later, think I have £25 or so left until next Friday!

That is fab!! Just think of the interest you've saved (go on how much did you save by paying it off now!) and if you havent already post the cheque, dance round the sitting room and jump about a bit - being under £10,000 is utterly fabulous! I'm dead jealous! Well done you. As for job sit I think op are right - you get penalised for having savings so much better to pay a debt off now than have to deal with unemployment AND debt!...younever know what will happen - if they've just given you a bonus sounds like they would be wanting to keep you?!
