    Congratulations on Maxy! He's a cutie! :D

Agree with all what's been said about the food. I would think that a decent food is even more important for a growing puppy than an older dog too. Don't be too shocked at the prices when you look at other foods because you will find that you need to feed a lot less of the better quality foods so you can't really compare them on say how much 15kg is but on how long the bag will last according to the feeding guide. Like was said just change over slowly to avoid upset tummy.

CSJ is very good value and gets lots of reccomendations too - I haven't tried it for my dog yet though. Best if you have a stockist close by to avoid paying delivery though.

Manda1205 & sequeena you can get some Burns VAT free this is what I feed my dog they do Canine Alert in Chicken or Lamb which is for assistance dogs if you compare the Ingredients / Nutrition panel it's more or less exactly the same as the normal Adult Chicken & Lamb the only difference is the Canine Alert has added Fish Oil and antioxidants which I think is a bonus anyway!

Enjoy him he will be huge in no time!

ps. You will notice if you feed him better quality food you will find because it has less fillers etc. lots less will come out the other end and it doesn't stink as much too!! :p;)

catlou - thanks a lot for that link. The CSJ food looks good on price compared to some of the others suggested, and there are a few stockists not far from Newcastle, too.

These one's look like they may be ok....

£12.80 and £18.35 respectively for a 15kg sack. (website delivery would cost £6.85)

Only thing I noticed, a lot of the stuff on there seems to be geared toward 'champ' show dogs and working dogs, whereas Maxy is just a pet.

I presume they will still be just as suitable for him?

Anyway, he spent another night in his crate with the door shut from 10pm, where he cried for about 5 minutes, then was quiet and he woke at about 5am - he hadn't wet inside the crate, and once let out, he went in the garden where he did his no.2's which he'd been holding.

He still has his food and water in there during the day and evening, but we took both bowls out last night, as he was spilling the water, and to prevent him drinking through the night.

He's still having a few 'wee' accidents in the house - either in the lounge or passage, but if we catch him quick enough we are able to steer him out to the back garden. Hopefully he will recognise shortly to go outside for those too, as he has managed not to do a no.2 inside the house since the first night.

He has also found his voice, and has started barking a little - its generally when he's playing with one of his soft toys, and appears to get frustrated with it. The soft dog bed also seems to set him off, as he rolls about in it, and can't get to one of his toys because he's upside down, or on his back!!.

Our son is a little nervous when he barks, and when he tries nipping. But we keep reassuring him that Maxy isn't being aggressive, its just that he doesn't know what he can and can't do yet - and that he just needs to be firm with him (but not to shout) when he tells him not to do something.

I'm sure they would be fine for a pet. I think they started off more aimed at working dogs etc. but they have such a variety now that there is something to suit all.

I would give them a call/email, previously people have posted that they often get a direct response from Ceri - the owner. Tell her what breed and how old pup is and see what she suggests. They send out samples too - best to make sure he likes it before you buy 15kg! Although if he's like my dog he will eat anything & everything!! :rotfl:

The Natural puppy sounds very good to me it says at least 36% real chicken which is excellent. I think that the Bakers (and other similar mass market brands like Pedigree etc.) contain about 4% meat derivatives (ie rubbish leftover meat) which is appalling really. :(

Thanks again catlou - have just submitted an enquiry on their website, so see what they recommend and if they send any samples out for Maxy to try too.

Got a reply from Ceri at CSJ - She is going to send out some samples of the foods she recommended, to try and see how Maxy gets on with them.

    Thanks again catlou.
