stupid mistake

have just withdrawn £160 by accident, my C/C and debit card have same pin (but not for much bloody longer). I immediately called the call centre and explain that it was a genuine mistake, that I was slightly inebriated and that I will pay the money in 1st thing on monday morning. What I wanted for them to do was to ensure the money paid in repaid the £160 advance. Without any hesitation he said that he was sorry I made a mistake but it was just tough, and that any money paid in would have to clear my purchases 1st. I did ask to speak to a supervisor but got told that there were none available.

Should I call on monday and speak to a supervisor or just drop it?

I would call on Monday, of course you can pay money onto a card before the purchase hits it. It just puts the card into a credit situation. I have done it before with AMEX.
The less interest paid the better.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

It depends if you have a big balance on the card or not. If you have then try to negotiate a little bit of interest to be credited. If you clear every month then you have a good case speaking to someone further up the food chain than the bottom feeders (solid customer etc etc). Don't give up and remember, then computer makes the decisions unless you persuade a person to intervene on your behalf.

I had a similar situation where I accidently paid two credit card bills into the same card account. After a lot of humble requesting they removed all charges and interest.

    Best of luck.
  • Thanks people. Going to call them monday. Have £2600 debit on the card and no way of transferring it, not yet anyway. Have a good relationship with Natwest so will see.

    Cheers for the advice

    well
maybe a sense of proprtion here

    £160 at say 25% APR will cost you £3.5 per month (i.e. 160 x 255 /12)

a crisis indeed, but one suspects that if you were inebriated then you spend more than £3.5 per month on booze.

I dont see much point in calling Cust Services again. If you have a balance on the card and withdrew cash, then all payments will go towards the lowest interest rate. The cash will continue to accrue interest. ALL credit cards work the same way (except Nationwide) and is called negative payment hierarchy - as usual, its all in the terms and conditons, which are unlikely to be altered.

As Clapton points out, it doesnt equate to that much.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
