Just managed to catch up on all the action - you have all been busy!

    Here's a couple of tips you may/may not find useful;

I use pump action liquid soap not bars of soap for the wash hand basins (no soap scum to clean!) When they're empty, I refill the pump action bottle with one of my many shower gels or bubble baths. They do work just as well (for hand washing anyway - never tried for face - I use facial wash for that!)

    2. My OH likes to use bar soap in the bath and won't use the last sliver (typical). But these always get used up as I use them for stain removal on fabrics before washing - and I've found this works too! (Thanks to my Mum for this one)

    3. I haven't bought tinted moisturiser since my last one ran out October last year - I now mix one of my many foundations (Rimmel cream foundation at the moment) with normal moisturiser, in the palm of my hand and it works a treat for a lighter base.

Happy usage and remember, spend less - pamper more!!

Just had a thought when trying to think of ways of making body lotion and using up stuff I have. I have a large tub of coconut oil, which is nice but very - well - oily so I'd like to use as a base for a lotion. I was trying to think of stuff to mix it with when I remembered I have some old (ie about 3+ years) sun tan lotion in the loft, which has probably lost its potency as a sun filter. I wonder if it would make a nice body lotion.

I think I might whizz some together in my food processor and see what happens.

I'll report back when I've tried it.

Can I ask where you got the coconut oil from or is it an old purchase in your stash? My DD used to get coconut oil from superdrug to use on her hair, but they haven't had any for the last year and I have not managed to find anywhere else that sells it. Was it expensive?

    Thanks

I managed to buy some always when it was on offer in Makros. I think I managed to get something like 10 packs for £5.00 or something rediculous like that and then shortly afterwards I was told by my consultant to continuously take the pill  I am now allowed 2 periods a year so it will take me forever to use them up :(

Mum? Sister? Friends? I'm sure they would all appreciate them. :)

Tara- all that money! Youll be at your 40K target before you know it. What % is that so far  :T :T :T well done you!

Thanks for all your kind comments. :) The savings stash is now £63.79... I put in £1.89 as I resisted buying a 400g jar of Nutella earlier (after about 5 minutes of internal debate, I am so craving chocolate today!!!), so I think that should go in. It's money I would otherwise have spent, even if not on toiletries.

My savings are for a house deposit. I've already saved £30,000 so I am 75% of the way to £40,000... but when I get there (hopefully before the end of 2010) I'll just increase it to £50,000 and keep saving till I buy a house. OH has his own deposit savings too (we intend to buy together) but not as much as me (unfortunately!).
It was the Boots clearance store.....well, it was always going to be, wasn't it! I had to go and take a look - it would have been rude not to!

I spent £7.95.....but on the positive side it was a cash spend, and came from my regular weekly spending money, so I didn't get the plastic out. I also have to say I think I got quite a good deal.........I got:

5 x double sachets of day/night moisturiser - these will go on holiday with me.
2 x mini tubes of Radiant Glow lotion - I love this and can't usually justify it.
1 x full sized Boots Expert face scrub
2 x 16 packs of compact tampons - again can't usually justify but so useful for handbags.
2 x mini Boots mediterranean body scrubs - mint & melon - One of these will go on hols with me
1 x S&G mini flakeaway (I blame you lot for that, raving about S&G stuff!)
2 x packs of christmas gift tags
1 x mini Boots mediterranean body wash
    1 x FULL SIZE No.7 Mascara
1 x FULL SIZE S&G Scrub of Your Life body scrub.

I have no justification for the body wash apart from it sounded lovely and was only 20p. :o I also initially picked up, but then put back a second one of the body washes and a full sized S&G body butter. :D The mascara will go in the drawer ready for one of the two I currently have on the go to give out. As it has more in common with the Clinique one I'm using than the Maybelline one I might go for using up the clinique one first.

    Sorry girls! :o

Dear Lord what a haul of bargains for £7.95!!!!!!!!!!!! *jealous*

Ahem, I mean you are a naughty girl!!!!!!!

This is a great idea. I've just finished a bottle of shower gel and will use up all the open stuff before i start on the new. I've put the unopened products away so i'm not tempted.
It's so good to see some space in the bathroom - and it must save cleaning time?

I've put all my 'to be used up' stuff in the pretty S&G Shower House box to get all those half bottles out of sight. I take products out when I am going for a shower/bath and put them back afterwards. So now my S&G stuff is on display in the bathroom and looks so pretty! It makes the bathroom look far less cluttered and more like a spa. :D I am only using the S&G/Sanctuary/good stuff at weekends though, am using the bog standard stuff on weekdays.
Where abouts is the boots clearance store? x

To all the ladies who by Instyle magazine. Mine arrived today and have just opened it and guess what supplement it comes with? Yes you may have guessed its the 100 top beauty products

Every year i want to try some and for the last 5 years i have resisted by the Creme de la Mer face cream!

However so far i've not seen the normal competition to win every item which i would normally have a few goes at winning!

I love this supplement, I still have the one from about 2/3 years ago. :o But I will not be buying anything from it, oh no!! It is far more rewarding to see my savings pot grow - and I am getting soooo pampered with the stuff I already have.

  • Used up an Avon body lotion today, and about used up a night cream. Yeah. Also started a shower gel, which I really don't like, so using it as handwash in the bathroom now. I feel much better with all this pampering.

Just realised almost at the end of my night cream  Will definately have to buy one, as the weather remains so harsh ( ie wont be able to use up some"day" ones at night.

Had a full on pamper slathered in body butter, the full teeth routine ( brushing/mouthwash/tape/interdental brushing. Full cleanse/ tone/ moistuise/ lips and hand cream. Feels great.

Have jsut had a feeling about the Molton brown hand lotion. Ive sneakily opened the bottle so you cant tell and smelt it  OMG it reminds me of " a hippy shop" that reeks of joss sticks. Not for me. So I will ebay this before we inadvertently open it. Anyone any idea what it will fetch- i think this costs 15.00 in MB.

Also realised I dont like "lotions" much prefer "creams". I have thirsty skin and lotion seems to just slick around.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Hi, which MB fragrance is it? Not that I'm interested in buying - I got a White Mulberry one for Christmas and also have a smaller Rose Granati on in my stockpile. Am using a small Naranji at the moment and would say it's my least favourite fragrance. I find that these lotions keep my hands moisturised all day.
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Finally finished all the conditioner sachets, must have been around 30 of them. The only thing thats left in the little basket they were in are Crest Whitening strips but I don't know if I can use them up as they make my teeth really sensitive, might see if my sister wants them. Nothing else finished and haven't been near a Boots or a Superdrug for ages. I'm on my last tube of moisturiser, I think, need to search all the stash to make sure, so will have to brave Boots at one point!!
