Hi
Just need some advice, My car insurance is coming up for renewal and just got recently got zapped by a speed camera. Ive got the 3 points and the £60 fine (just over the speed limit).
But my concern is how much it is going to affect my car insurance, I have never had points before.
I know I have to inform the insurance company but do you think it will really affect my premium !!
Thanks

It'll not make much difference, if any.Happy chappy0

In my experience it will make a difference, but not a lot. I accidentally got a renewal quote for my OH completely forgetting about his 3 speeding points. I re-did it and it went up. Can't remember how much, but I think it was around £30.0

Did you tell your existing insurers at the time as that should give you an indication of the likely changes?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Very easy to find out.
Use confused.com or another search engine.
Put in quote with zero points (or appropriate number).
Go back and edit quote, keep all details the same but increase points by 3.
Voila !
BTW - You should inform your current insurer.
I understand you are using in as convenient to tell them at renewal but they might not like that if it's the same insurer.0 -
Hi
So shall I tell them now or wait until renewal.
Many thanks..0 -

You should tell them as soon as you get it. You are liable for any potential increase from that day.
if its just an SP30 and your only points then its unlikely to have any impact on price. Its when they start stacking up or getting more serious that the increases come.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
