hi i have a liteon external dvd burner attached to my computer.whilst playing a music cd on it yesterday(tom jones greatest hits)my little niece pulled the usb lead out but when i reconnected it my computer came up with the message'one of the usbdevicesw attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it.i have tried unplugging and connecting loads of times i,ve rebooted my computer 4 times,i,ve also tried a system restore none of which have worked.i,ve plugged my printer into the usb port and that works ok.so i,m out of ideas now and hoping you knowledgable people have any more ideas.

Usb is normally ok to unplug so somethings amiss. Whats the model number of the burner and have you tried to re-install any driver that you may have had

try a soft power off to clear all the power in your PC, hold the powere button for 30 seconds. might work.... also try the dvd burner in another pc if you can.0

My only input would be to check the usb port isn't broken. There's 4 little strips of copper hiding inside the plasticky bit at the computer end. Sometimes one of these can bend and fold under.
They should sit so you can just see a small bit of metal poking out - kinda like a slightly bent finger (I have weird fingers). If it's all curled up or the plastic bit is snapped then that can give you the same message - or worse can turn off your computer.
Hopefully it isn't this.0
