Hi
My sister is living in Thailand and wants to start saving, ideally with a UK based bank (and one where you cant withdraw- she cant trust herself!!) but she pays each time she sends money to the UK (about £10) does anyone have any tips on where to go to avoid paying or any well suited Thai or international banks
many thanks
Paul

Try a bank that operates in both countries - eg if she had a UK account with HSBC and paid in the cash in Thailand in a HSBC bank, there may (note may - she'll need to check!) be no charge. Almost certainly still be costs for converting Thai Baht to stirling though.0

Try a bank that operates in both countries...
Can you name one? I thought not!
For ten quid a month it's not worth the hassle. Don't bother.

Have to agree with the above.
For £10 a month why bother? In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

Yes I can...and I did!
Whether it's worth the hassle is up to the OP. They posed the Q and I answered it!0 -

Personally if I were her, and living in Thailand, I'd save in a Thai Baht account.
As a previous poster pointed out, in case it is the bank stability rather than the currency she is worried about then HSBC have a presence in Bangkok.
