My mum's got the dreaded windows live virus on her computer so ive been given it to try and fix. Cant open any program or application in normal mode.
Have attempted following instructions elsewhere and deleting files connected with it but that hasn't worked.
Have now put malware bytes, spybot search and destroy and superanti spy on a disc to install in safe mode but the computer won't let me open the cd drive! I can't connect it to the internet to try and download them - what can I do? It's XP by the way
Thanks

Bring up TASK MANAGER and attempt to determine which process is causing the problem and kill it:idea:0

It wont even let me do that, says the file is infected.0

you should be able to access the CD drive just as the PC boots if you keep hitting the button, whack the CD in then ....
or try booting and scanning with this first

What says the file is infected?:idea:0 -
Ive managed to get a flash drive to open on there so going through the spyware programs at the minute.
This windows lives virus thing, every time you try to open an application or whatever it comes up with the message 'cannot open as this file is infected'. The only processes on the safe mode task manager are the safe ones.0 -
Try and get HIJACK THIS running too ~
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
Managed to sort it, thanks for the help.0
