MSI X610 Or Sony Vaio NW20

Getting a new laptop for xmas but not till the sales start but wanted to know a couple of things before i narrow it down to the 1 i want. It's either the MSI X610 which doesn't come with a cd/dvd drive but has an HDMI Port. So was thinking off buying a Samsung DVD-H1080/XEU DVD Player with HDMI Output or simlar and using the usb port to connect to laptop so i could play films on it.
Other 1 is a Sony vaio NW20 which does have a dvd/cd rom drive but hasnt got a HDMI Port so does the MSI seem a better buy even without an optical drive but is adding the dvd or a blu-ray player the better option. Can these players mentioned above read standard backup disks incase i needed to use the recovery/windows cd??

How about the Dell Studio? Has a HDMI port and DVD-RW drive.
Specifically this one.

Blu-Ray is a complete waste of time on a display the size of a laptop. The HDMI on a laptop is usually OUTPUT ONLY. You can't connect a player to it.0

If it has an hdmi ouput what can i connect too that port then.
Milliionaire i got argos vouchers for crimbo and have the chance to use them plus
with my store card use the 9 months BNPL option so got 9 months to pay it off.
So would like too buy if from there. Would aTV out be a better option than HDMI.0 -
I presume you could connect it to a HDTV and feed someting like HD iplayer to it as a second monitor.0

Something else i've just thought off to ask about. Does windows 7 still use usb 2 and will i have any problem using my 2 usb sticks, 1 is my mobile broadband and other is my wireless mouse. Both work with xp[sp3] & vista.0

USB2 is fine on Windows 7 - just check there are drivers for the broadband dongle, but there should be.0

Dave where would i go for the drivers will it be to the 3 and t-mobile web site as i have 2 dongles.0

As stated HDMIs are usually output only accept on a rare few dv series HP's. I know this as i played my ps3 on it with a bit of fiddling around so i didnt have to resort to using an old crt whilst my tv was in repair.Back by no demand whatsoever.0

Yes, try their sites - I don't think you will have a problem, as it's in their interest to make sure it works for you, otherwise you can't spend money with themHank_Marvin wrote: »Dave where would i go for the drivers will it be to the 3 and t-mobile web site as i have 2 dongles.
