Painting a Bookcase

I have bought a beech baby bookcase from Argos. I am wanting to paint this pink for my daughter's room to match her furniture. Problem is, I don't know where to start. This is the first time I have ever attempted any DIY! I would love if possible for the painted bookcase to look as though it was bought that colour? I am trying to achive this look http://www.very.co.uk/rf/vry/p.do/furniture/kids-bedroom-furniture/hush-4-plus-4-drawer-chest?Nao=0&groupId=495035598&Nu=this_product&SNtk=&Np=1&SN=160+4294955217+85+3071&Ntt=495035598&D=495035598&Ntk=group_search&Dx=mode%2bmatchall&thisprod=495035598&N=160+4294955217+85+3071&Nty=1&Mis_item_id=15&Mis_item_loc_id=1&product=495035598&pageSize=66&selectedImg=A902P_SP268_06_TB304.jpg

Beech as in real beech treewood or beech as in beech effect? Oh sorry you said Argos. Is it beech effect melamine faced chipboard then? If so you need to make sure its clean then prime it with a melamine primer. Then paint the colour you want. Looks like Dulux Trade Eggshell will do you OK made up to the colour you want.
