Thats right, the whole Partnership closes until the 27th (the Trafford one always seems the exception) my wife only works on a Saturday and she has enjoyed today off!

Could not believe the queue this morning outside Next in CMK, it stretched out the door and down the outside of the centre and that was at 930 I think it had been open for a few hours already.

I quiet happily jogged past running off my stupidly big xmas dinner!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!
  • Went into Kilmarnock town centre earlier and it was terrible! The shops had bigger sales leading up to christmas than what they had today. Things that were on sale were items that were already discounted before christmas. Most of what JJB Sports had on sale for men was shorts and t-shirts!

The place was like a ghost town - you would have thought it was a week day morning with the lack of shoppers. Some of the shops weren't even open, even though it was a Saturday.

I remember 10-15 years ago struggling to decide what shop to spend my christmas money on and you had to fight your way into the shops because they were that busy. Around this same time I worked as a shop assistant in the town centre and it was drilled into our heads how important the January Sale was and that it made up a large percentage of the shop's annual income. We had to take on extra staff during January and we had a genuine temporary sale. It's little wonder we all shop online!
  • We went to Bluewater, got there at 9.30 and left at about 1pm just as it was starting to get very busy.

I did my usual trick of stocking up at Boots with gift sets. Been saving my Advantage Points all year so I can get some goodies in the sale. Picked up about £150 worth of stuff and ended up paying only £25 for it by time I'd used vouchers and points :)

Got a few bits in Accessorize and Dorothy Perkins but nothing much just a few bits of jewellery. I didn't even bother looking at clothes as it was far too busy and I'm not a hardened enough sales shopper to route through all the rails to find something decent.

There are definitely bargains to be had if you can be bothered to sort through stuff. I;d advise getting there as early as you can and planning the places you want to go first in advance.

If your trying not to be tempted, I'd say that ignore the Vat increase: did you really notice the occasional (as not everyone did it) 2p deducted from your bill per £1? exactly! Its not really such a big deal, VAT going up wont make a jot of difference in a week- and some stores wont increase until later on then that anyway. (John Lewis for example are not planning to add the Vat increase until later on in the year as it means additional new signs) Places like Topshop didn't ever take it off in the first place!

Oxford Street wasn't worth the hassel today, I got there about 1.30pm and it was mostly sold out of anything worthwhile- you really needed to search for your bargains at that point. The crowds were soemthing else and every 5th person seemed to be wheeling either a tiny baby in a buggy or a travel suitcase! Why people why!!

Stick to online, same deals, less travel money and no queues! Unless you like the sweaty man-screaming baby-smoke in your face as soon as you step outside the door atmosphere...

I did go to Westfield and they had a few bargains left. I do prefer to touch and feel things before I buy them (as I was looking for clothes and am fickle with fabrics) but nothing there you couldn't get online. Did fill a day well though, I think if I had other plans I'd have shopped online- I only get the chance to shop properly once a year and this is it! Think its the seeing and immediate own as you have paid thing that makes it worthwhile, the only thing you cannot really get online.

yes..Rubbish! It was heaving - my local has a huge carpark and I almost went home as I couldnt get a space. I bought 3 items (clothes for kids) it really wasnt worth the effort though. I think next year I will save myself the hassle and buy at full price all that palava for a few quid off and such rude people pushing and shoving you is just not worth it.
