You make money by making good, clever and (lucky)choices. Yes there is money to be made in buying a house, but you have to know what you are doing. If you don't, you could end up losing lots.

When I say learn new skills, this is precisely what I mean. Find out what is involved in buying a house. Be prepared (were you ever a boyscout)

ok, so you have a minor criminal record, what better way to show people that you are a responsible person than by approaching personally for a job. people with a positive outlook always get breaks.

I have worked in cafes, bars, hotel part time. I can also paint and decorate, garden. Just take a good look around where you live I bet you you will find lots of little one off jobs. I have done this myself.

Money is not everything, but to be financially independent gives you security, peace of mind and a better quality of life.

Ideas are the thing that make money.

  • Here here. Ideas... making good choices/ decisions. I am at the beginning now, where I end up is dependant on the above. One day at a time, keeping my eyes and ears open and things might be good.

I am hanging onto the possibility of my current job becoming permanent (I work for an agency and will have been there a year next month). Although, I need to have a think about what type of work I would like to do. This is all good advice, thanks. Plenty to think about. Action plan to be devised. Hmmm....

Thanks for your advice on approaching companies, although I am slightly handicapped in this area, as I have a criminal record (minor-ish offence). So any job that requires a CRB check would be out of the question.

Jobs with CRB checks are not out if you have a criminal record (it just means more forms ) If you are up front about it and say - I was a prat and have a record, this is not me now - most employers will accept that.

What are you interested in doing? - to be honest the job centre website is rubbish - look at places like monster etc, even if you google jobs in and put the first bit of your postcode in - its amazing what comes up. You have to keep applying and applying for jobs, get someone to look over your CV and check there are not mistakes (one memorable one from an applicant who enjoyed working with members of the pubic :rotfl:). Also write a covering letter with the job - it really does improve your chances. Anyway good luck sounds like you are on the right track

Not if you rent it out? If you rent a house out it stops being a liability and becomes an asset.

But can you continue living with your parents?
