Well, not being able to find anything suitable elsewhere I bit the bullet and placed the order with DFS but the jokers had one last trick to play,,,,,,,,,,£35 delivery!

No negotiation on that either, not even if I pick it up from the store myself. Seems the £35 then covers 'insurance' whilst 'my' goods are in the care of DFS.

    Unbelievable.

Also tucked away in the T&C's with the £35 charge I see a note that according to DFS my ordered furniture is, apparently, made to my personal spec, therefore distance selling regulations do not apply and any rights under them are not allowed.
Slippery so&so's indeed. I'm regretting this deal already.

I recently tried this on a sofa on DFS where the 0% IFC was offered and after speaking the sales consultant for sometime (I knew him personally as I used to be his manager in a previous job) he advised that they were not allowed to offer reductions in price when the interest free credit is on offer as it would not be interest free if a person paying in cash is paying £200 less (e.g. then the charge for interest is £200 leading to false advertising claims etc......) He advised they had more leverage when they were not offering such deals as they could vary the interest rates available and that they did not make monies from such offers and they (the sales consultants on the shopfloor) made better money on where there was a charge for credit.

    That sounds about spot on.

Ive tried twice over the last few years, and believe me, youre looking at the worlds most prolific haggler, but they've never budged, not even 1p.

Well, the projected 6 week delivery date has been and gone. It seems there is a 'problem' with the fabric and they need another 4 weeks!

Interesting that the web site offers 'express delivery' on this sofa.

    :(

I know, I know, serves me right for dealing with the bad guys.

When we bought our sofas many years ago from a local shop I asked about discount for cash, and got aeound 10% off, but he did say to keep it quiet as they weren't meant to do it, as it then made their interest free credit deal unfair. Because we had ordered a special fabric which cost more they were able to write it off as a discount on that, iirc.

It's not a national chain though, and it was quite a few years ago, I doubt if I'd get the same deal today (though it wouldn't stop me trying):D
